Chapter 14

Shivansh looked at her , going away from him. He was feeling guilty as well as angry. He was feeling guilty for screaming at her but was feeling angry, seeing her happy with someone else.

“ Why can't she love me and not that man?”, Shivansh thought.

He tries to divert his attention from her and engrosses himself in the work.

For the next few days, both of them try to avoid each other as much as they can.

Every night,Avni used to sleep while crying. Ronak was able to sense her sadness, but whenever he asked her what happened, she said she was okay and it's just work pressure.

In the hospital, she was used to being engrossed in herself and stopped spending time with her friends. They were feeling worried about her but they weren't able to do anything.

One evening, Shivansh was about to start a surgery and Manvi was supposed to assist him but at the last moment, some emergency came ,which led to Avni joining his team.

“ Don't make any mistake”, Shivansh said to her in a stern voice.

“ Don't worry Sir!! I know how to do my work properly.”, she said, with a little sarcasm.

The other staff was shocked seeing Avni talking to him in this tone.

Shivansh gave her an angry look and later they entered the O.T to start the surgery, leaving their conflicts outside the surgery room.

The operation was successful which makes Avni happy. Shivansh wanted to praise her but didn't say anything and left from there without saying anything.

Their cold was continuous for some few weeks, which was finally sensed by her colleagues.

They asked her the reason but she denied everything.

Bhavna was also seeing everything but she didn't interfere and turned a blind eye, letting them solve their own problem.

One day, Shivansh was in his cabin, sitting with Chirag.

“ Shivansh, can I ask you a question?”, Chirag asked him.

“ Since when did you need my permission?”, Shivansh said to him, with a smile

“ Why do you behave rudely to Dr Avni?”, Chirag asked him, which made his smile fall.

“ It's nothing like that. You know my nature. I can't tolerate mistakes that's why I am strict with her”, Shivansh said, while averting his eyes.

“ Don't lie. You don't behave that much rudely with other interns, the way you talk with her is not usual….”, Chirag questioned him.

“ You are misunderstanding…. it's nothing like that ... .I treat all the interns equally”, Shivansh said, not meeting his eyes.

Chirag didn't say anything and kept his mouth shut, knowing if he asked another question,he would have to face Shivansh's anger.

Two days later, Avni was called by Dr Vikram, another senior doctor of her department. He asked her to assist him in tomorrow's surgery.

“ No problem Dr Vikram!! I will be there”, Avni said to him with a smile.

Next day, she joined Dr Vikram in the surgery. They were going to perform the surgery on an 8 year old child. When first Avni got to know about this, she felt a little hesitant but then she knew her responsibility.

For a Doctor, all patients are equal, irrespective of their age or gender.

Soon the surgery started. Everything was going perfectly fine when suddenly the child’s blood pressure shot up, making things difficult.

“ He is sinking ... .we are losing him”, the nurse told them.

Avni and Dr Vikram tried to save him, they tried their best but unfortunately they lost the kid.

In the medical profession, doctors have to face such a situation many times. But for Avni it was her first time.

For the first time in her profession, she saw someone losing their life during surgery,in front of her eyes.

It was traumatising for her.

“ Dr Avni!!”Dr Vikram called her name, seeing her standing in shock.

“ Ye…Yes”, Avni said,still lost.

“ I think you need some rest. You should take a leave for today and go home”, he said to her.

Dr Vikram understood her feelings. He consoled her and asked her to go home for today.

“ Thank you “, Avni said, feeling grateful. She hurriedly went to pick her bag, wanting to get away from here as soon as possible.

That child's face was coming in front of her eyes again and again.

She was about to leave the hospital when she saw the parents of that child, crying badly.

She felt like crying herself. She hurriedly left the hospital. She took a cab and made her way towards her home.

Avni reaches her home and starts crying thinking about the O.T scene. Somewhere in her heart, she was blaming herself for not trying her best, for not saving the child.

On the other hand, Shivansh got to know about what happened in O.T from Dr Vikram.

“ For Dr Avni, it was very traumatising. But I can completely understand her situation. I still remember the day, when I  saw someone losing his life during surgery for the first time”, Dr Vikram told Shivansh.

Shivansh thinks about Avni and what she will be feeling right now. For every doctor, losing their first patient has been very traumatising, there is no doubt in this.

“ I need to rush. I will see you later”, Shivansh said and left the hospital, after postponing his appointment.

He knows right now,Avni needs him more than anything.

Soon he reached her apartment and rang her door bell.

Firstly no one opened the door so he rang it again.

When there was no response,he felt worried for her.

He was about to call her when he heard the sound of the door opening.

He saw Avni in front of his eyes. Her eyes were swallowed due to continuous crying.

He felt his heart paining, seeing her like this.

“ Dr Shivansh, you here?”, she asked him weakly.

“ How are you?”He asked her.

“ I am fine. What will happen to me?”, she asked him.

“ If you don't mind, can I come inside?”, he asked her.

“ Yes!! Sorry for not inviting you”, She said, giving him a fake smile.
