Chapter 8

“ Please forgive us”, Vansh and Rohan asked for their forgiveness.

“ You have hurt Avni very much. If she is ready to forgive you both then I am as well”, Manvi said, leaving everything on Avni.

They looked towards Avni with hopeful eyes.

“ I have forgiven you but I will not be able to trust you both completely. It will take some time”, Avni told them.

“ We are ready to make efforts”, they said, with determination.

Avni gave them a smile, making them happy.

Later four of them went to the cafeteria to celebrate their new start.

Later Avni went to Shivansh’s cabin and knocked on the door.

“ Come in”, she heard his voice. 

She took a deep breath and entered his cabin.

“ Yes?”, he asked, looking towards her.

She looked at him, with a different emotion.

“ Dr Avni?”, he said, seeing her not saying anything.

“ I am here to say Thank you and Sorry…”, she told him in one breath.

“ For what?”, he asked her.

“ Thank you for bringing out Gourav’s truth for me and Sorry for that night”, she whispered softly.

“ About Gourav, he was wrong and he needs to be punished. It was my duty to take action against him or anyone who will do such cheap things. About that night, it was highly irresponsible of you to get drunk in a nightclub, where you were alone…Have you thought if I wasn't present there at that time and someone had taken advantage of you??...You are a doctor so be more responsible….”, he said, lecturing her.

“ I know my mistakes. Moreover I have no intention to drink alcohol,it was just a mistake…”, she whispered to him.

“ Hmmm…..Be more careful in future…”, He told her, strictly.

“ Yes!!”, she replied and then left his cabin.

He was looking at her, going outside his cabin with a small smile on his lips.

“ Why am I smiling?”, he questioned himself.

He shrugged off his thoughts and started concentrating on his work again.

Two days later, 

Avni and other interns were busy with their work when Dr Shivansh and Dr Chirag called all the doctors and interns for the meeting.

They hurriedly went to the meeting room where everyone was gathering.

“ Listen everyone, a huge accident has happened near our hospital causing many casualties. The injured are being rushed to our hospital.Within ten minutes, the injured will start coming. So get ready everyone and give your best”, Dr Chirag told them the situation.

Everyone understood the seriousness and rushed to prepare beds and other equipment.

Soon the hospital starts crowded with injured patients and their family members. Doctors were running here and there to help the patients as much as they could.

For the interns, it was their first experience of handling large scale emergency situations.

“ Bring him here….”, Avni said to staff,who were bringing a little boy on the stretcher, who was covered in blood and crying badly.

Avni hurriedly helped him lay on the bed and started checking his wounds. 

“ It's okay,baby…Don't cry…. it will be over soon”, Avni said, trying to make him calm.

He had injured his leg in the accident.

Fortunately he wasn't injured badly. He only had a fracture in one leg. She sent him for X-ray and later to the Orthopaedic department.

Then she treated a female who had a head injury. After doing the initial check up, she sent her for the MRI to make sure it is only a concussion or something more.

“ This lady is pregnant….”,the nurse told Avni, pushing a lady inside, covered in blood and partly unconscious.

“ Oh no..”, Avni mumbled and ran towards the lady. 

“ Please save my baby”, she heard the lady mumbling, when she was taking her pulse.

“ Call Dr Chirag…. Her situation is critical”,Avni said to the nurse.

The nurse ran towards Dr Chirag and told him the situation. He came running towards her and checked the patient.

They hurriedly took the lady for an ultrasound. 

“ We need to do her c-section right now”, Dr Chirag said and send his department intern to prepare the O.T as soon as possible.

After a few hours,the situation was finally under control and all the patients were safe and sound, recovering slowly.

Avni heard from other interns that the lady had given birth to a baby girl.

Avni was happy knowing both the mother and child are safe now.

Due to the emergency situation, they had to work for more than 15 hours continuously,which made them very tired.

After a long hectic day, finally they got to go home and take some rest.

As soon as she reached home, she thought of FaceTime her family because she had not talked to them the whole day.

As soon as the call connected, she saw her family members’ faces. 

“ Hello everyone”,She said with a smile on her face.

“ Hello Princess….”, they said, together, making her smile more.

“ Are you not eating your food on time?? You are looking so weak…”, her grandmother, Kavya, said, worriedly.

“ Yes!! Look at your face…. it has turned pale….We shouldn't have sent you there…”, her grandfather, Ranbir, said, feeling worried for her.

“ Relax Dadu, Dadi ... .I am completely fine…It's just, today I had a very hectic day. A big accident happened near our hospital so we have to work overtime…So my face is pale due to lack of sleep….”, Avni told them, yawning.

“ I think we should go and stay with Avni to look after her”, her grandmother (father's aunt), Nandini, said.

“Nandini didi, there is no need to do anything like that... .I am absolutely fine…”, Avni told them.

“ Beta, we understand your job is very demanding but you should also take care of your health. If you will be healthy, only then you will be able to help your patients”, Her father, Adhiraj,told her.

“ I know Dad…I promise I will never compromise my health….”, Avni said to her family.

They talked for  sometime before Avni went to sleep.

As soon as she laid down on the bed, she went into deep slumber.
